Record of Anomalies is a series of drawings about small breakdowns in civic infrastructure, sorted into subcategories in the manner of an official taxonomy. The work is centered on the absurdity of classification systems. The system breaks, but it continues to operate, somewhere between failure and correctness.
I first noticed these anomalies in my own neighborhood, where an impractical number of cones had been arranged to simulate a roundabout. Naturally, the cones got knocked about, probably with some vigor. I started documenting anomalies as though I were a government employee, through drawings, etchings and embroidery.
I reinterpret the conventions of official documentation to maximize impracticality. Some of the works are etchings and aquatints, which are slow and unforgiving processes that record minor failures with an excessive amount of detail and attention. The labor echoes the slowness of bureaucracy. The drawings and embroidered pieces follow the same logic.
