Meowmania

An absurd experiment in interactivity, randomness, and feline logic.

Meowmania is an interactive web-based artwork where each click generates a new cat face, accompanied by a different meow. With each interaction, a different cat appears, and the user’s mouse movement sends it spinning in space.

Originally developed as an experiment during my residency at Fabrica, Meowmania plays with low-stakes interactivity, absurdity, and the universal appeal of cats. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s cat watercolors and bizarre internet cat collages, the project embraces nonsensical engagement as a form of creative liberation. It also inadvertently created an unexpected audience: cats themselves, who are uniquely responsive to the sounds and motion.

By stripping away traditional artistic pretense, Meowmania questions how digital randomness, play, and humor function as accessible artistic experiences. It shares a conceptual lineage with Birdmania, exploring how simple generative systems create endless variation—turning every click into a small, unpredictable moment of delight.
